Portrait of Lisa Jane Holman

About Lisa Jane Holman

Every story has a beginning, and Lisa Jane Holman’s starts in North Devon in the 1970s. Born at North Devon District Hospital and raised in a family rooted in independent business, Lisa grew up surrounded by creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurship. Although her family originally came from Essex, moving to Devon before her birth gave her a blend of influences that would later shape both her personal outlook and professional journey.

From an early age, writing felt natural to her. Winning a poetry competition at secondary school sparked a love of words that never truly disappeared, even when life became busy with family, business, and responsibility. As the years unfolded, Lisa built experience in sales, marketing, management, and business development, developing the practical skills that would later support both her companies and her writing career.

Her twenties brought major life changes: marriage, a move to North Wales, and the birth of her daughter, Rachael. Following the end of her first marriage, she returned to North Devon and rejoined the family business. Soon afterwards, she met Simon, her best friend and soulmate. They married in 2003 and later welcomed their son, Harrison.

In the early 2000s, the family relocated to Wiltshire, where Lisa’s career continued to evolve. She worked in executive and business management roles within charities and local businesses before launching her own soft furnishings company. Combining creativity with a deeply personal approach to customer care, she built a loyal client base that extended across the South West and into London.

Books, however, were always close to her heart. Whether immersed in romance novels or gritty crime fiction, storytelling remained a constant companion throughout her life.

Alongside her business career, Lisa developed a deep interest in the paranormal and spiritual world, an interest that intensified following the devastating loss of her sister, Faye. Over time, she became a respected paranormal investigator and consultant, known for approaching her work with sensitivity, integrity, and compassion. Since 2018, she has been part of a renowned paranormal investigation team at Jamaica Inn, exploring and documenting unexplained phenomena. She has also shared her experiences through podcasts, radio interviews, magazines, and public events, while advocating for greater accessibility within paranormal spaces.

Then came 2020, a year that changed the world for many people. During the COVID lockdowns, Lisa rediscovered her passion for writing, and what began as a creative outlet quickly reignited something far deeper. That spark led to her debut novel, Dalton’s Demons.

Not long afterwards, Lisa faced her greatest personal challenge: a breast cancer diagnosis. Following intensive treatment at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, including chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, and multiple hospital admissions with sepsis, she made the difficult decision to close her sewing business and focus fully on recovery.

Through that experience, writing became more than creativity; it became survival.

In 2023, Lisa published My Boob Tried to Kill Me!, a deeply honest, heartfelt, and often darkly humorous account of her cancer journey. More than simply a memoir, the book offers comfort, understanding, and companionship to patients, families, friends, and healthcare professionals navigating the realities of cancer treatment. Alongside the book, Lisa has also developed practical journals designed to help people manage appointments, medications, symptoms, and treatment plans during long-term illness.

Today, Lisa continues to write while balancing her roles at Zen Accountants and Visit Somerset, and offers private consultancy built on more than 30 years of business experience. Alongside Karin Beasant and Kim Morgan, she offers practical and paranormal advice to heritage locations, through Paranormal Consultant.

She is currently working on the sequel to Dalton’s Demons, while continuing to advocate for cancer awareness, creativity, resilience, and accessible support for others.

At the heart of Lisa’s story is one simple truth: no matter what life has placed in her path, she has continued to grow, create, and help others do the same.

Thank you for reading.

Much love
